Do you find that fewer and fewer merchants are taking Discover Card?

I have had a Discover card for 7 years and still enjoy using it. It is the only credit card I use. They offer 24 hour telephone customer service with agents here in the United States that speak clear english. Many other companies like Chase and Citicards have their call centeres in India and don't have 24 hour customer service. The major problem I'm having is that fewer and fewer merchants take Discover Card. Many restuaratns don't accept it. Even national chains like Jamba Juice, The Coffee Bean/Tealeaf and Il Fornaio don't take Discover. Rather than have two credit card bills per month I would rather pay cash than use my Chase Visa card. Three out of 4 times I end up paying cash for my meals out becuase they don't take discover. Two local movie theater chains near me AMC and Pacific only take Visa,Mastercard and AMEX. When buying a ticket online with Virgin America they don't take Discover. I ended up flying Southwest Airlines instead bacause they take Discover and I don't want to use my Cahse Visa card. Will Discover go out of bussiness or disapear beacuse of their small market share. Many people act as if Discover Card does not exist. The reason I applied for one in 2001 is because Visa and Mastercard turned me down numberous times and Discover is the only company that approved me. My bank ATM card is not a debit card. My ATM card does not have a Visa or Mastercard logo on it. My little independant bank does not offer debit cards. Only ATM cards to withdraw money. My bank ATM card is not a debit card. 1. Discover is making money so they won't go under. Its called brand recognition. Visa and Mastercard are the most popular form of acceptance all across the world followed by Am Ex and then Discover. Discover has almost no visibility outside North America. Same can be said about Diner's Club which is a European brand but has very limited acceptability in the US. I don't think Discover will go down but for convenience you just might want to open up a Visa/Mastercard account in case. If you have managed your credit responsibly for 7 years, I see no reason why you can't be approved. I don't have Discover and I am not missing it either. I use Visa and Mastercards and except Costco and Nieman Marcus (both take Am Ex only), all take Visa and Mastercards that I know. I don't shop at either :) For best credit scores, FICO models suggest you have multiple credit cards. 4 is optimum even if you don't use them
2. no i have no had any problem finding a place to use my card!!! i like you love the service i have received from discover and i have had it forever -- the places you listed i have never heard of so i do not have that problem!!!
3. In the area I live, I am seeing more and more places accept Discover cards. You can use your Discover card outside the States as well. Places in Central and South America are accepting Discover cards.
