Why does my online Netflix movie keep stopping to reload itself every 5 minutes or so?

I'm watching a Netflix movie online on my computer, and when I play it, it only loads about a five minute portion of the film, once it reaches the end of this portion, it stops and reloads itself. Even if I finish the entire movie (which takes ages, by the way) and try to watch it again to get the whole movie in one sitting, it still stops itself every five minutes. Why does this keep happening and can I fix it?

  1. because you need to reset your modem. if that doesnt work, clear your browser cache, if that doesnt work, then netflix is having problems. it should have a constant stream download, but its not. one of the two above should fix it.
  2. it all has to do with how fast your internet service is, & how high of quality netflix is trying to send you. your internet speed can also be slowed during high usage times (6-10pm).. sometimes if you have super fast internet speed (7) then netflix will try to send high quality video which is nice for watching but any spots where speed dips due to usage, service provider flaws, or whatever, will result in netflix needing to stop & catch up... to give example here is my experience: i had super fast net service at 7.5 & netflix video was great but lots of times where it would stop & so usually i would start the movie & then pause at beginning credits, go do something else for about 20 minutes & then come back & watch. that gave it a chance to download info far ahead of me and although i might then be watching faster than video is downloading i would not quite catch up (usually) until movie is done... NOW, due to moving, i can only get 1.5 speed... i never have netflix video stop now, but i also get way worse quality of video... ironic that faster speed meant more delays, albeit better quality though...
