Will a cinema production program allow me to become a director?

If I get into a cinema production program at a university, will it prepare me for directing films?

1. It would be a great help. But,I think the best prep.you can get is starting at the bottom in a small theatrical company. Observe how the whole machine works,try all sorts of behind-the-scenes work. Once you see the whole machine working,you will be really prepared. I think the course would be a lot of fun though!
